ALASKA MENTAL HEALTH TRUST AUTHORITY PROVIDES MORE THAN $1.2M IN COVID-19 RESPONSE GRANTS TO PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS ALASKA

June 10, 2020 – Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority (Trust) has awarded 62 COVID-19 response grants totaling more than $1.2M to partner organizations across the state. Based on the response to the program, and assessed partner need, trustees approved up to $1.5M for this program.

The Trust is providing grants of up to $25,000 to organizations that have had their ability to provide crucial services to Trust beneficiaries impacted by COVID-19. The Trust is considering applications requesting support for emergency beneficiary needs, identified health and safety issues related to the pandemic, and operational assistance. Trust beneficiaries include Alaskans who experience mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, and traumatic brain injuries.

“The sudden onset of the COVID-19 meant many of our partners who provide essential service to our beneficiaries across the state were struggling to continue providing support and treatment services, and in some cases even to keep their staff and their doors open,” said Mike Abbott, CEO of the Trust. “We are pleased that we were able to take swift action to help our partners continue their operations during this pandemic. Our funding has been used for needs such as acquiring the technology necessary to transition to tele-service delivery, purchasing personal protective equipment for clients and staff, and providing safety net supports to keep beneficiaries housed, fed, and cared for.”

The Trust is still accepting applications for its COVID-19 response grant funding. For grant guidelines and eligibility information, please visit the Trust COVID-19 response grant webpage.
